5 KEY POINTS TO REDUCE POWER STRUGGLES, TANTRUMS & BEHAVIOURS....

1.) Acknowledge the Emotion - let the child know, that you recognize the emotion/feeling that they are experiencing. This can defuse a potential tantrum/meltdown instantly!
2.) Boundaries - Explain clearly what is expected of the child and what is acceptable or not.
3.) Choices - offer 2-3 options with in the desired outcome.
4.) Notification - time warnings of when something is about to change. Can help children prepare mentally & emotionally for what will be happening next.
5.) Consistency - the glue that holds it all together! Follow through each and every time. Behaviour's may escalate at the beginning because it is different than what the child may be used to. The resistance should ease up after a little while if follow through is consistent.
