Too many uncertainties during the pandemic are causing an increase in anxiety among Parents and Children. Here's the solution....

6/16/2020

Parents facing new or increased experiences of anxiety has been a huge topic of discussion during the pandemic as it seems to be having a massive, negative impact on families. One of the greatest contributing factors is the uncertainty that comes with the territory of a world-wide pandemic that has never happened before. There is no plan put in place already and procedures are being made up as we go along. This leaves most of us fearing the ‘unknown’ which is a difficult place to live life and guide our children.

Recognizing this is the first step because it isn’t your fault or your responsibility to solve the worlds problem. Rather, our role as a parent is to COPE the best we can and that means a combination of decreasing stressors as much as possible, letting ourselves know that it’s going to be okay, creating ‘known’ by encouraging clear expectations and boundaries to work within as well as prioritizing ‘self-care’ to help ease the impact of stress on our mind and body.

The Miss BEHAVIOUR METHOD is a program designed for parents that helps them to understand and learn better ways to COPE with their children's behaviour and reactions. Contact us anytime to learn more about the program as well as other services that may be suitable.

Tips to help TEENS cope during the pandemic and build more RESILIENCY

6/13/2020

Comments

TEENS have been overlooked during the pandemic due to the nature of all the changes happening in the world landing on the laps of the adults to deal with. Most of the responsibilities parents have to cope with, have taken top priority leaving most kids in the dust. Even though all children have been effected by school closures and the adjustment in learning, TEENAGE kids have it especially difficult because their main focus is on the social aspect that comes with school and how it’s so important for TEENS at this age to stay well-connected to the peers.

With schools, parks, restaurants, cafes and malls all closed, teens are left to very little in terms of connecting. Most still have access with the internet and social media but not all and most definitely not all the time. The difficulty in this issue is that it is not the most important disruption and one that many adults would bock at due to its lack of importance in comparison to the major health, safety and financial issues effecting the world. However, a ‘minor’ disruption it may be but still a disruption. Being aware of this and VALIDATING your TEENAGE child's experience is still highly recommended. Staying connected to our friends may not be a top priority to most adults, it means everything in a TEENAGER'S world. Keeping communication lines open in general is important but allowing for TEENS to share their vulnerabilities with parents is critical. Helping your TEEN also recognize the feelings they may be experience with the loss of their social life and the adjustments they have to face is helpful for them to be able to move through this challenging time and learn ways to build their resiliency.

Feeling GUILTY as a Parent? This exercise can help bring about more balance to your parenting role

6/11/2020

Comments

When experiencing feelings of guilt because there has not been enough time, effort, connection or attention spent on those you love most (including yourself), it is important to remember that GUILT is a natural reaction when we do something wrong or bad. When it comes to parenting and not ‘doing enough’ for our children and family because we are pulled in so many directions as well as carry an immense load of responsibility, that is not the same as ‘doing something wrong’. Therefore, GUILT is misplaced and what is really going on hidden underneath is that we are UNBALANCED.

Part of the reason why so many of us Parents are UNBALANCED is because we are so spread thin among so many aspects of life. Work, family, finances, health, home, schedules, school, childcare, relationships, social life, education are among the most common and it easily leads to exhaustion and BURNOUT. Recognizing this is the most important part of creating a more positive and healthier outcome. Once we gain that awareness, it can help re-focus our efforts on maintaining the balance instead of drowning in the GUILT.

When we identify ourselves as a ‘parent’, we think of this as a all-encompassing role that we are locked into and must complete all the responsibilities mentioned above plus more to feel like we are good parents and that we are successful. This is not the case. Being a parent is part of who we are but not all of it. Remembering our 'self' as a critical component is important to remember and SELF-CARE is part of supporting this component. If not, we end up giving and giving too much until we are depleted and that is not good for anyone.

I’ve come up with an exercise below to help Parents shift into a more BALANCED way of feeling in their lives. It can bring more awareness around who you are besides just being an anonymous Parent.
If you need support or guidance while Parenting in ISOLATION due to the COVD19 pandemic, contact us immediately. We have services to help during this challenging time.
parents who feel guilty for not doing enough for their kids, work/life balance is hard for parents, parenting coach creates exercise for parents to use to help decrease feelings of guilt, recognize the role of parenting that is split into three major parts like the self the guide and the nurturer, helping support parents with work/life balance and daily life with kids at home, children's behaviour challenges and the support parents need to cope with stress at home and in daily life, young children and stay at home moms or dads feeling the stress that comes from modern-day parenting.
RE-CALIBRATING THE PARENTING ROLE EXERCISE
Follow the instructions below to complete this exercise.

1.) Reflect on your role as a parent. Think about the 3 different categories that create the parenting role.

2.) Write the percentage you feel you would give yourself ( in your current role) in each category and write it inside that circle.

3.) Move down to the blank line underneath the circles and write ups. Write 33.3% on each one of those lines.
(As a parent, we are divided into 3 main parts - the person, the nurturer and the guide. Each one of these are extremely important. When we can give equal amounts of time, energy, money, attention and care, we find ourselves in a more BALANCED STATE. If the the percentages are not equal, this can cause for an UNBALANCED feeling which can leave us feeling empty, confused, unmotivated and feeling guilty.)

4.) Compare the percentage totals. If they are relatively close in equality, this is a good sign that you are balancing all three well and keep moving forward! If they are not, do not worry just try to reflect on which areas of your day/life can be adjusted to help bring more balance which can create for a greater sense of well-being.

exercise developed by Julie Romanowski that helps decrease and eliminate guilt from parents regarding their role as a parent, parenting guilt is high among most parents especially during the pandemic where they are not able to get everything done for everyone, nurturing children in daily life is challenging for parents, guidance does not come easily to parents and guiding challenging behaviour is a much needed skill for mothers and fathers, parent educator and children's behaviour consultant provides support and resources to parents and families all around the world in learning better ways to cope with their children's behaivour, tips for parents to increase self-care, helping Mom's to balance their lives better, supporting Dad's to balance work and life responsibilities.

Guidelines on knowing if Parent Coaching, a Child Observation or Emotional Support is necessary for reducing concern, worry or stress for Parents, Teachers, Educators or Caregivers

4/18/2020

Comments

Children's behaviour can be challenging at times in knowing what to do about it, how to manage ourselves around it or how to best guide the child through it. As one of Canada's top Parenting Coach & Consultants, a lot of the feedback I get from people is that they don't think their concerns about their child warrants a doctors visit yet they feel that no one else in their circle seems to be able to offer any help or solutions leaving them feeling stuck and stressed!

Below are some  key points of reference to help guide parents, teachers, educators and caregivers in knowing if the child they live or interact with requires additional guidance, help or support.

  1. There is an increase in intensity and frequency of the child's negative behaviours that cause hurt, harm, disruption or destruction.
  2. The child is not listening, choosing to ignore, disrespecting or becoming defiant on a regular basis of your boundaries, expectations and/or rules especially in regards to health and safety measures.
  3. The child demonstrates an on-going a state of stress, anxiety or worry on any topic, routine or situation.
  4. There is a noticeable increase of anger outbursts and verbal or physical aggression towards others, themselves or their surroundings.
  5. You suspect there is a delay, diagnosis or issue with development but are not sure or feel confused about it.
  6. There is a major disruption, negative impact or chaos with in the family, household, classroom or group and not sure the cause of it.

If you have any concerns with these points mentioned above or if you have other concerns not listed, CONTACT US anytime by email, phone or text. We offer a complimentary initial phone consultation as a way to connect, discuss and create a plan of action as needed. These phone calls are confidential and there is no obligation to continue with services.
Tips on how parents or teachers know if you need parenting coaching or support? if children are defiant or demonstrate physical aggression which interrupts the family or household than a phone call to discuss further may be beneficial, contact Julie Romanowski for a free phone call to see if serivces are needed for your situation or family, verbal aggression tantrums or meltdowns that cause stress or worry among other children or family members are a good indicator that support services customized for your individual needs may be required.
