TAMING TANTRUMS! the key to successfully managing those meltdowns

You know it's about to happen and the temptation to run for the hills or hide under the bed is very high however, this is the #1 way to connect with your kids and turn the tantrum spiral into one of the greatest learning opportunities out there! You will need to be equipped with the understanding of the tantrum process and the techniques to navigate through correctly. Here are 3 tips to remember:

REMAIN NEUTRAL
Reacting emotionally will make things worse, remain the 'leader' in the situation and let your kids know that their reactions and behaviour do not effect you.

BE CONFIDENT
Tantrums are challenging however they are a natural part of development. It's okay to happen, avoid trying to 'stop' them but rather manage them.

TIMING
Allow the tantrum to run it's course, it will look different for every child and every situation. Expression of emotion is okay but hitting/lashing out is not okay. Correct the negative behaviour inside the tantrum when things have cooled down....it's okay to wait for this part to take place when connection has re-established.
