Alert!!: be aware of a disturbing new 'practice' that parents think is great but is actually really detrimental to kids! It's the viral videos going around on the internet about how parents will demonstrate IN FRONT OF THE CHILD an aggressive beating of the child's beloved teddy bear/stuffie. Although I fully understand that it can be extremely challenging and frustrating to get your child to eat healthy food and to eat their meals quickly, parents have to be very mindful of how they "encourage" their child to eat as the long term impacts can be devastating! disturbing new practice that parents are using to manipulate their kids to eat their food at mealtimes but it isn't having a good impact on development or their trust, behaviour expert from Vancouver talks about the negative impacts and why it is not good to try this with kids as it can scar them for life and really sever the trust-bond they have with their parents, beating of teddy bears or stuffed animals to encourage kids to eat may look like it works short term because the child is so scared they eat as they don't want the same thing to happen to them but it this should not be demonstrated infront of kids as it sends a very strong message of manipulation and punishment to a child which is perceived as a huge threat and can spike their fight flight freeze stress response instincts, Julie Romanowski is a parenting coach with over 22 years of experience and is featured all over the world on many media outlets including CTV news which features this story and much more on parenting and family life as well as parenting and child development.
