You would never give 'cold/flu medication' to a child for a broken leg, so why would you apply a disciplinary technique like 'time out' to a child who has made a mistake? Children need to be taught by their parents/teachers/educators/caregivers the difference between RIGHT and WRONG in each situation and scenario. Never assume they know or that it is obvious. Kids have so many things going on in their worlds that they need that #1 person in their lives to help them through the storm so they know for next time what is expected of them. This also sends a very strong energetic message to them that 'they matter' and have worth and value because you saw the importance to teach them correctly.
3 TIPS TO BE MORE EFFECTIVE IN DISCIPLINE
1.) Stay CALM & NEUTRAL: our own emotions and stress need to stay out of this area....always.
2.) Focus on finding the MESSAGE behind the behaviour: children's behaviour is communication...always.
3.) Stay CONNECTED & emotionally available at this difficult time: kids need you to re-connect with them when they have made a mistake, acted out inappropriately and are vulnerable....always.
