Perhaps the BACK TO SCHOOL transition isn't going as smoothly as expected. That's okay.....its not too late! We've provided some key points to get back on track and sail into the school year like a breeze! Parents & kids will be feeling a lot more confident this year.
BE CLEAR WITH EXPECTATIONS
Discuss how things are going to go as well as what you want your child to do. Kids also want to know where their Parents are going to be during the day and who is going to pick them up.
VALIDATE
Acknowledge your child's emotions, desires or concerns.....even if you don't agree with them! This can help kids feel like that they are connected and that they matter. Help them work through what ever is going on.
CONSISTENCY
Routines are built on repetition and time. By following through on the same expectations day in and day out, kids start to understand and learn what is going on. Soon they will be able to 'predict' how things are going to go and this is a great sign that they are feeling 'self-secure'.
